In the publication of Jurnal Acta Diurna Vol. 22 No. 1, April 2026, we stand at a pivotal moment where academic discourse must address the rapid shifts in both global and local landscapes. As Indonesia progresses toward its 2045 goals, the responsibility of communication scholars has expanded to interpret a world defined by volatility and digital complexity. Globally, the landscape is overshadowed by the profound consequences of military escalations in the Middle East, specifically the strikes by American and Israeli forces against Iranian infrastructure. This conflict has moved beyond physical borders into a sophisticated "information theater," where AI-generated disinformation and state-sponsored narratives have fundamentally altered how global crises are processed. Domestically, Indonesia navigates its own challenges; following the leadership transition, the nation faces the immense task of communicating large-scale social reforms and infrastructure shifts amidst a digital environment rife with misinformation. The tension between necessary digital regulation and the preservation of academic freedom remains a central theme in our national discourse, especially as society strives to maintain cohesion against a backdrop of global economic uncertainty and shifting public policy.
Jurnal Acta Diurna continues to serve as an essential bridge of knowledge, connecting rigorous research with the public. This edition reflects the multifaceted nature of modern communication by presenting studies ranging from digital netnography in gaming communities on Discord to the cross-cultural motivations of global fandoms. By exploring these themes, we aim to provide constructive criticism rooted in scientific values and social responsibility. We believe that only by upholding high academic standards can these insights offer a meaningful impact on communication science while addressing the complex needs of society. We acknowledge that all human efforts are subject to limitations and realize that this publication may have shortcomings in presentation or substance. We sincerely apologize for any inadequacies and welcome reader feedback to ensure the continued improvement of our future editions. Thank you for your unwavering trust and support in the Acta Diurna Journal. Happy reading!.
