The Effectiveness of YouTube Animated Videos on Economics Learning Outcomes at Al-Mukhlis Islamic High School
Abstract
The low academic achievement of students in economics subjects, especially in the subject of supply and demand, is the main basis for the implementation of this research. As a solution, this research tested the effectiveness of the application of learning media in the form of YouTube-based animated videos. Through a quantitative approach of the type of quasi experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design, this study evaluates the significance of the difference and the level of increased understanding between the intervention class and the conventional class. Involving the entire population of class X social studies students at Al-Mukhlis Islamic High School, Bandung Regency, as many as 50 students were drawn as samples using the purposive sampling technique, which was then sorted evenly into 25 students in the experimental group and 25 students in the control group. The datasets obtained through written tests, questionnaires, observations, and documentation records were statistically processed using the IBM SPSS application. The results of the analysis showed that: (1) there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05; (2) the integration of Youtube animation videos has been proven to boost the achievement of experimental class students; and (3) the N-Gain of the experimental class score that reached 0.754 (high category) far exceeded the control class that was retained at a score of 0.405 (medium category). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of YouTube animated videos is a very effective instrument to optimize Economics learning outcomes in grade X students.
