A FORMATION OF ENTREPRENEURIAL CHARACTER AND UNDERSTANDING OF GENDER AT PESANTREN AL-IKHSAN BEJI
Abstract
Gender issues and entrepreneurship hold significant roles within the rich religious values and character-forming background of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Pesantren, often the subject of negative news, inherently have the potential to be the medium for forming superior and religious entrepreneurial characters with integrated gender awareness. This research focuses on Pesantren Al-Ikhsan Beji, Banyumas Regency, uniquely applying both salaf and modern educational systems, aiming to delve deeper into how such pesantrens can shape strong entrepreneurial characters considering gender aspects. Through a phenomenological study method, this research explores the transformation of pesantren in integrating entrepreneurship values and gender awareness into their curriculum and practices, and how this can contribute to achieving the 4th and 5th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The results indicate that although significant challenges related to gender stereotypes and cultural resistance exist, there are extensive opportunities to develop gender-inclusive entrepreneurial models within the pesantren environment. With government and community support, pesantren can become the forefront in developing young entrepreneurs with gender awareness and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development.
