Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines for Southeast Asian Studies & Strategic Perspectives (SEA-Insights Journal)

Thank you for your interest in submitting your manuscript to SEA-Insights Journal! We are excited to consider original and high-quality research that contributes to the understanding of Southeast Asia from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

Please carefully review these guidelines before submitting your manuscript.

Scope and Focus:

  • SEA-Insights Journal publishes original research articles, review articles, and policy briefs related to Southeast Asia across a broad range of disciplines, including political science, international relations, Law, economics, history, anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, and environmental studies.
  • We are particularly interested in manuscripts that:
    • Offer new insights into contemporary Southeast Asian affairs.
    • Examine issues from a multidisciplinary perspective.
    • Engage with debates and theoretical frameworks relevant to the region.
    • Have clear policy implications.

Manuscript Submission:

  • Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the journal's online submission platform (http://jos.unsoed.ac.id/index.php/sassp/index).
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter stating the following:
    • Title of the manuscript
    • Author(s) names, affiliations, and contact information
    • Word count
    • Abstract (no more than 250 words)
    • Keywords (5-7)
  • Manuscripts should be prepared according to the following format:
    • Font: Times New Roman, 12 points
    • Line spacing: Double-spaced
    • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm)
    • Length: Articles (6,000-8,000 words), Review articles (4,000-6,000 words), Policy briefs (2,000-4,000 words)
    • Language: English (American or British spelling accepted)
    • Style: Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition)
    • References: Use in-text citation and provide a complete list of references at the end of the manuscript.
    • Figures and tables: Number consecutively and place captions below.
    • Abstract: Include a separate abstract of no more than 250 words.
    • Keywords: Include 5-7 keywords relevant to your manuscript.

Review Process:

  • All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process.
  • Authors will receive notification of the editorial decision within approximately 8-12 weeks.
  • Revised manuscripts will be considered upon invitation from the editor-in-chief.

Copyright and Author Agreements:

  • Authors are required to submit a copyright transfer agreement upon acceptance of their manuscript.
  • The journal holds the copyright for published articles.

 

Open Access and Publication Fees:

  • SEA-Insights Journal is committed to open access publishing. We are pleased to announce that there are no Article Processing Charges (APCs) for manuscript submissions and publications. This initiative ensures that the costs of publication, peer review, and editorial management are covered without financial burden on the authors. For more details on our open access policies and any available support, please refer to our website. Authors who publish with us retain copyright for their work, allowing for wider dissemination and reuse under a Creative Commons Attribution license.

 

Publication Ethics and Plagiarism:

  • SEA-Insights Journal adheres to the highest ethical standards and follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited and will lead to immediate rejection of the manuscript. Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and proper citation of any sources used. We utilize plagiarism detection software during the review process.

Data Availability Statements:

  • Authors are required to include a data availability statement in their manuscript, specifying where or how their research data can be accessed. Acceptable data repositories include institutional repositories, public data archives, and dedicated data sharing platforms. Please refer to [link to resources] for a list of recommended repositories.

Author Biographies:

  • Please provide a brief biography (around 150 words) for each author, including your institutional affiliation and current research interests. You may also include a headshot (optional).

Acknowledgements Section:

  • The acknowledgements section is intended to recognize individuals or institutions who provided significant contributions to the research, but who do not meet the authorship criteria. Please limit acknowledgements to a reasonable length and avoid including personal information not relevant to the research.

Author Discounts on Reprints:

  • Authors receive a [50%] discount on print and digital reprints of their published articles. You can request reprint orders through our online platform or by contacting the editorial office.

Social Media Promotion of Articles:

  • We actively promote published articles on our social media platforms (Twitter: [@SEA-Insights Journal], Facebook: [@SEA-Insights Journal], LinkedIn: [@SEA-Insights Journal]). We encourage authors to share their articles on their own networks using the provided hashtags (#SEAInsights, #OpenAccess). Author-specific social media toolkits are available upon request.
