Pemanfaatan Styrofoam dan Cup Air Mineral Bekas Sebagai Media Tanam Hidroponik Kangkung
Abstrak
Limited land and the accumulation of waste is a major problem in urban areas. The existence of plastic waste that is not decomposed by the environment will have an impact on the environment. Styrofoam and used mineral water cups are one of the plastic wastes that are difficult to decompose and can be used as hydroponic media. Hydroponics emerged as an alternative to agriculture on limited land, especially in urban areas. This community service activity was carried out in Tanjung Sari Batang Kuis Village for 40 days consisting of the stages of preparation, socialization, training, evaluation and monitoring of results. The results of this activity showed that as many as 20 boxes of styrofoam and 80 cups of used mineral water were successfully utilized for hydronic kangkong cultivation in the yard of residents' homes. The yields obtained were 25 bunches of kangkong which are ready to be processed by local residents into vegetables for the family. This community service activity was expected to be able to educate the community in the use of waste into planting media and the community can explore other hydroponic opportunities that can increase food security and as alternative income for their families with limited land and simple maintenance.
