Abstract

Coconut coir is an organic by-product of coconut processing industries that holds significant economic potential when transformed into value-added products such as cocopeat. Nevertheless, enterprises in this sector frequently face challenges in establishing a structured and sustainable business model. This study aims to map the cocopeat business model of PT Coconut Coir Cilacap and formulate strategic development recommendations using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework. A descriptive qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation over a four-month period. The findings reveal that the company's cocopeat business model is built upon a value proposition grounded in natural product superiority, environmental sustainability, and measurable quality standards, targeting horticultural, hydroponic, and sustainable agriculture farmers in the domestic market. BMC analysis identified strategic gaps, including dependency on informal supplier agreements and underdeveloped derivative products. Two strategic recommendations are proposed: product diversification through grow bag development and strengthening of strategic partnerships. This study offers practical contributions for waste-based agribusiness enterprises seeking to design more adaptive and sustainable business models.
