Allegations of Research Misconduct

MATAN: Journal of Islam and Muslim Society is committed to maintaining research integrity and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal takes allegations of research misconduct seriously, whether they concern submitted manuscripts or published articles.

Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to, fabrication or falsification of data, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship practices, manipulation of the peer-review process, unethical use of research data, and other forms of conduct that undermine the integrity of scholarly work.

Anyone who has a reasonable concern regarding possible research misconduct in a manuscript submitted to or an article published by MATAN may report the concern to the editorial office. Reports should include relevant information or supporting evidence whenever available.

Upon receiving an allegation, the editorial board will conduct an initial assessment and may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors or other relevant parties. The journal will handle allegations fairly, confidentially, and impartially, while providing the individuals concerned with an appropriate opportunity to respond.

Where necessary, MATAN may consult the authors’ affiliated institutions or other relevant bodies to assist in the investigation. Editorial actions will depend on the nature and seriousness of the findings and may include requesting corrections, rejecting a manuscript, publishing a correction or retraction, or taking other appropriate measures in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

All allegations will be assessed based on available evidence. No individual will be considered responsible for misconduct solely on the basis of an unverified allegation. MATAN aims to protect the integrity of the scholarly record while respecting the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
