Abstract

This study aims to present the form of the lexicon, describe the lexical and cultural meanings of the lexicon, describe the function and social aspects of the ngeracut lexicon, in the context of the ngeracut ceremony as part of the death ritual of the Tengger tribe. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The data of this research are in the form of lexicon or ritual terms and the media of the ngeracut ceremony which is obtained from interviews related to the death tradition of the Tengger tribe. Interviews were conducted with several sources in Tosari Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. The technique used is the note-taking technique with Spradley research analysis. The results obtained in the form of the existing lexicon forms at the ngeracut ceremony can be divided into two, namely the ritual lexicon which consists of serving and diracut, and the ngeracut lexicon including petra, prasamong isah, prastumpeng ireng, arena silir, and gedhang ayu. The cultural meaning obtained is in the form of public trust in the ngeracut ceremony as a form of ancestral culture whose existence continues to be preserved to this day, with various cultural functions that exist in the ngeracut ceremony such as an economic source for local communities, environmental conservation and so on. In addition, the social aspect obtained in the form of the community is expected to be able to establish good relations between each other, one of which is by collaborating to carry out the traditions carried out by the Tengger people, such as the implementation of death ceremonies.
