Abstract

Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) was known as the flower which many active compounds that act as
antioxidants such as flavonoids, poliphenol, anthocyanins, and vitamin C. This study aims were to
prepare the cream of ethanolic extract of roselle calyx that qualified in physical properties and
stability evaluation. More over, cover the antioxidant activity of cream preparations before and after
storage. roselle extract was prepared by maceration. The creams were made with concentration of
roselle extract of 0,5% (w/w), 1% (w/w), and 1,5% (w/w). The antioxidant activity was determined
by DPPH method. Analysis of test results for physical properties and stability using descriptive
analyzed and one way ANOVA with 95% confidence level and the antioxidant activity of the cream
before and after storage for 1 month using a paired t- test. The results showed that cream of
ethanolic extract of roselle calyx can qualified physical properties and stability during storage. All
of cream had antioxidant activity before and after storage. The highest antioxidant activity obtained
from Formula 3 which the highest of the percent reduction of 61,35% before storage and after
storage i.e 59,43%
